EL RELOJ is one of the oldest Rock bands in Argentina. In the beginning they played typical
Rock of the 70s, and the last album was Hard Rock and almost Heavy Metal.
They were founded in 1971 in Rosario and moved to Buenos Aires. But soon some moved back to
Rosario, after some problems and the death of one of the members. In this time guitar player
and singer
Willy Gardi joined the band. The rest of the line up was Bass player Eduardo Frezza, keyboarder
Luis Valenti, Drummer Juan "Locomotora" Esposito and guitar player Osvaldo Zabala. Together
they recorded the first album in 1975, and the second one in 1976. The style of this records is
typical 70s progressive Rock. Some tracks you can call also Hard Rock. The band played several live
shows, but before they could build up a big fan base they split in beginning of 1977.
In the beginning of Willy Gardi re activated the band. New members were Daniel Telis and
Petty Guelache (both ex- MORDAZ). In the same year they recorded the album
"La escencia es la misma", which is suppose to be more a mix of Progressive and Jazz Rock.
But they soon split again. In 1989 they came together again. This time Willy Gardi was joined by
Claudio Marciello on guitar (later with TRONADOR and ALMAFUERTE) and bass player Beto Cerioi
(ex- REINO SANGRIENTO / CERBERO). They played a lot of concerts, especially with HERMETICA.
Only in 1994 they recorded the next album "Santos y Verdugos". This contain heavyer stuff. It is
still influenced by the 70s and progressive Rock, but has also some real Metal parts. Sometime it
reminds me of Gary Moore. The cover artwork, with the band as holy man (santos) and torturers
(verdugos) is really cool! But desaster struck them again, when Will Gardi died in a car
accident in 1995. But they did not give up, and integrated Vikingo Martinez on Vocals, and
recorded the album "Hombre de Hoy", which is suppose to be more heavy (I do ot have this one).
Soon another vocalist, Gustavo Cipriano joined the band, and together with the original
guitar player Osvaldo Zabala, keyboarder Luis Valenti and drummer Juan "Locomotora" Esposito
(in the meantime member of BOXER and Pappo`s HOY ES NO HOY) they recorded in 2002
"Mercado de Almas". This is a real heavy album. It contains powerfull Hard Rock and pure Metal
tracks. They played together with DREAM THEATRE. They recorded a show in 2003 and plannd to
release it as live album, but so far nothing happened. In mid 2004 died the next member,
keyboarder Luis Valenti, when he suffered a heart attack!
The album "Cronologia" from 2000 must be a best of CD, no idea if it contains different versions.
There seems to be no homepage of them, so I do not know if they are still active!?

Formados en 1971, son originarios de la ciudad de Rosario, se trasladan a Buenos Aires y
luego de muchos inconvenientes, que incluyeron la muerte de uno de sus integrantes
(Hugo Tabachnik), varios de sus integrantes vuelven a su ciudad natal, es por ello que E.
Frezza, incorpora a Willy Gardi y al resto de los integrantes para conformar el grupo, de
este modo logran editar su primer disco en 1975.
Su estilo de rock pesado y contundente, que se podía ver cuando actuaban en vivo,
(quizás demasiado adelantado para su época) no se vio tan reflejado en su primer disco,
un poco por la escasa experiencia con que contaban cuando lo grabaron, y otro tanto por
el tipo de equipamiento con que contaban, ya que poco tiempo antes de comenzar a grabar,
sufrieron un accidente automovilístico, cuando se dirigían a un show a la ciudad de
Rosario, y en el mismo perdieron gran parte de sus equipos.
El primer trabajo de "El Reloj" contó además con otra cosa en contra, fue catalogada
como la "peor tapa en la historia del rock Argentino", esto se debió en parte, a el
pobre apoyo que les dio la compaņía grabadora.
De todas maneras, su primer disco les da la oportunidad de dar a conocer su música.
Los conflictos internos por diferencias personales y musicales ya eran evidentes en
1976 pero por cuestiones contractuales recién se separan, en febrero de 1977, luego
de la edición de su segundo trabajo.
Se vuelven a unir en 1983 (liderados por Willy Gardi con una nueva formación) pero se
volverían a separar luego de unos aņos, el grupo tiene un nuevo retorno en 1989.
"Santos y verdugos" marca el retorno de la banda que fiel a su estilo no defrauda a sus
antiguos seguidores, pero la muerte, nuevamente golpea a la banda, Willy Gardi, quien
fuera uno de los integrantes originales del grupo, fallece en un accidente automovilístico.
Pese a golpe la banda continua su carrera incorporando a el Vikingo Martínez en voz y a el
"Polaco" Riedel en el bajo.Ya en 1999 editan "Hombre de Hoy".
La banda edita a fines del aņo 2001 su último disco, "Mercado de almas" pero ya no cuentan
con la voz del Vikingo Martínez y en su reemplazo incorporan a Gustavo Cipriano.
"El Reloj" se encuentra tocando en la actualidad, especialmente en la zona oeste del Gran
Buenos Aires, de donde son la mayoría de sus integrantes, conservan su estilo de rock
pesado y contundente del cual reconocen influencias músicos de la talla de Ricardo Iorio,
Flavio Cianciarullo y Ricardo Mollo.
El 31 de mayo de 2003, la banda brinda un show único en el Teatro Ateneo, donde realizan
las tomas para un futuro CD en vivo, que será el primero en su carrera de "apenas" 32
aņos.
El jueves 26 de agosto de 2004 nuevamente la muerte se interpone en el camino de la
banda, el tecladista Luis Valenti fallece cuando volvia de la ciudad de Mar de Ajo,
cuenta el manager de la banda que "...tuvo un paro cardiaco masivo, no tenia problemas
de salud y no sufria de el corazon... el lunes 23 habia nacido su cuarta hija Jazmin...".

Otra historia de banda, con permiso de Alejandro "Randy" Gentileza!
Formado en 1971 en zona oeste del gran Bs As editan su primer simple: "Al borde del Abismo" y
"Harto que agoto" en 4500 copias. Su segundo simple: "Alguien mas en quien confiar" y
"Blues del atradecer" vendio 100.000 copias! Realizan presentaciones en Teatro Astral, Cine Monumental,
Teatro fenix de Flores, Festivales varios, interior del pais, etc. Convocando
alrededor de 1500 personas por show.
A partir de alli EL RELOJ graba su primer LP: "El reloj" (re-editado en LP como : Blues del Atardecer)
y en 1976 su segundo LP: "El reloj 2" (tapa doble negra) presentado en el Luna Park el 22 de Octubre de
1976. En esos aņos la banda sonaba a DEEP PURPLE y con muchos toques de Rock progresivo.
En 1978 la banda se separa. En Marzo de 1983 EL RELOJ se reune con Daniel Tellis y Petty Guelache
(ambos ex- MORDAZ) editando en LP y casette: "La escencia es la misma" (1983) con un estilo Jazz- Rock y
algo de progresivo. Nuevamenta se separan y se reune con otra formacion que incluia a el actual
guitarrista y bajista de ALMAFUERTE : Marciello y Beto Cerioi (ex- REINO SANGRIENTO / CERBERO) en bajo.
Realizan varios conciertos junto a HERMETICA por ejemplo. En 1994 editan su CD: "Santos y Verdugos"
(descatalogado) pero a fines de 1995 su lider Willy Gardi fallece en un acidente automovilistico.
La banda se re arma nuevamente con un estilo mas Heavy y Power y editan dos CDs: "Hombre de Hoy" (1999)
(con el cantante Vikingo) y "Mercado de Almas" (2002) que los acerca a un sonido mas Power tal vez
emparentado con DREAM THEATRE.
En sus filas actuales cuentan con el ex- baterista de BOXER, PAPPO ( del disco "En concierto") y
HOY NO ES HOY Juan "Locomotora" Esposito. El apodo Locomotora se debe a su impresionante uso del doble
bombo con su bateria y uno de los primeros en tocar en ese estilo en Argentina.
EL RELOJ fue un grupo pionero junto a otros con influencias Hard de LED ZEPPELIN; DEEP PURPLE; HENRIX;
BLACK SABBATH,etc como : POLIFEMO; ROCKAL Y LA CRIA; PESCADO RABIOSO; PAPPO`s BLUES y BILLY BOND Y
LA PESADA.
