PAPPO NAPOLITANO, the inventor of Hard Rock in Argentina (guitar player in PAPPO´s BLUES and RIFF) died in an car accident end of February 2005!!

Der Gründer und Gitarrist Pappo brachte schon 1971 seine erste Scheibe "Pappos Blues" heraus. Einige dieser bis "Vol VII"(1978) genannten Scheiben haben weniger mit Blues als mit härterem Rock zu tun. Er ist bis heute die Verkörperung des ersten Heavy Rockers, und nicht umsonst wurden seine Lederjacke und seine Boots 1996 in der Ausstellung "30 Jahre argentinischer Rock" wie Ikonen ausgestellt. Aus heutiger Sicht und von neutralem Boden aus, muß man aber sagen, dass die meisten Scheiben etwas altbackener Hardrock sind. Nach den Krawallen und dem Split von 1983 nimmt er 1985 mit der brasilianischen Band PATRULHA DE ESPACIO eine Scheibe auf. Auch die anderen Mitglieder frönen danach den Solo Projekten. Vitiko bringt eine Scheibe unter seinem Namen heraus, die aber bloss belangloser Hard Rock ist. Boff nennt seine neue Band BOXER und deren Scheibe ist schon viel interessanter.
Im Jahr 85 lässt Pappo aber RIFF mit neuen Leuten (inclusive dem späteren Solo super Weichspüler Jaf) wiederaufleben und überläßt den Gesang mal jemand anderem. Das Ergebnis war das gute Album "VII". Dieses Line up hält aber nur kurz. 1987 brachte er ein Album unter dem Namen PAPPO Y HOY NO ES HOY heraus, bei dem auch der alte Gitarrist Boff wieder mitspielt. Diese LP "Plan diabolico" macht Laune und ist wie eine der besseren RIFF Alben! 1992 findet RIFF sich wieder mit den Urmitgliedern zusammen und veröffentlicht das Scheiß Album "Zona De Nadie", ehe man mal wieder auseinander geht. Bassist und Drummer sind aus der High Society, die sich nur aufraffen wenn sie Lust haben und dann wieder für Jahre nix machen. "PAPPOS BLUES SPIRIT" existiert nebenbei und mit einem Radiohit wird er der Liebling aller alten Ladys. Als das Blues Ding nicht mehr so läuft gibt`s mit den alten Leuten 1997 ein neues gutes RIFF Album als Eigenpressung. Dann spielte Pappo eine Weile einen Mechaniker in einer TV Seifenoper! Live spielten sie dann noch hin und wieder, und Pappo brachte noch ein Solo Album heraus und ist damit bis Feuerland getourt. Boff hat Anno 2000 auch eine neue Solo Scheibe herausgebracht.
Die LP's sind keine grossen Raritäten, da sind die CD's schon schlechter zu bekommen!
IM FEBRUAR 2005 STARB PAPPO BEI EINEM AUTOUNFALL!! Die grösste Rock Legende Argentiniens ist damit tot, und RIFF wird es wohl nie mehr geben!!

The guitar player Pappo (Norberto Napolitano) made his first record already in 1971 with PAPPOS BLUES. Some of this records called "Vol 1" till "Vol 7" (1978) have more to do with Hard Rock instead of Blues. In 1980 he went to Europe and got infested by the Metal virus. He founded the first real Hard Rock band in Argentina, using the AC-DC style. As the first Hard Rocker he has now a God like status, and his Leather clothes were displayed in the exhibition "30 years of Rock in Argentina" like a relic. In 1983 after the riots the band dissolved, and real heavy bands took over. Today if you look back, the music is very old style Hard Rock, and they copied a lot from AC-DC. They made in the next years all their own solo careers. Vittiko released an album under his name (that you can forget!), and Boff founded BOXER which made one album that contains good Metal. The double album "Pappo in concierto" from 1984 is surprisingly heavy.
In 1985 they got together again, and on the following album "VII", they used an extra singer. This makes it sound much better as Pappos voice is not very good, and also music wise it is the best album. After a while they split again. Pappo started with a new project called PAPPO Y HOY NO ES HOY (together with old member Boff), and the LP "Plan diabolico" from 1987 is like one of the best RIFF albums. RIFF was together again in 1992 in the first line up. The record from this year "Zona de nadie" is really bad, and they split again. Drummer and bass player are from the high society, and they only come together when they feel like it, and then disappear again for years. During this time Pappo has his band BLUES SPIRIT and he had a radio hit in the mid 90s. With that he became the darling of all old ladies. 1997 they recorded a new good RIFF album together, and played live here and there. Pappo played a mechanic in a TV soap. Pappo made in 2000 a solo album and toured with it till the far south, to Fireland. Boff made also a solo album in the year 2000. The records are easy to find in the country, so don`t let anybody tell you it are rarities! To find the old CDs is much harder!

El guitarrista Pappo (Norberto Napolitano) grabo su primer disco para el 71 con su banda PAPPOS BLUES, algunos de estos discos que van del VOL.I AL VII (1978), tienen mas que ver con el Hard Rock que con el Blues en si. En 1980 se va a Europa y se infecta con el virus del Metal, y funda la primera banda de Hard Rock en Argentina con el estilo de AC/DC. Como el primer hard rocker de Argentina tiene una fama de dios y su ropa de cuero fue puesta en el "30 años de Rock en Argentina" como una reliquia. En 1983 despues de los motines labanda se disolvio y otras mas en el Metal tomeron la delantera. Hoy si lo escuchamos, nos daremos cuenta que tocaban un Hard Rock antiguo y que copiaban mucho a AC/DC .En los proximos años todos ellos hiciueron carrearas solistas, Vittico grabo un disco con su nombre (que posible olvidar) y Boff formo BOXER que grabaron un disco de buen Metal. El doble "Pappo en concierto" del 84, sorpresivamente es pesado.
En 1985 se vuelven a juntar y usan un cantante extrapara su proximo album VII. Esta ayudo mucho ya que la voz de Pappo no es buena, y hasta en la musica este es el mejor de sus discos. Despues Pappo comienzo con un nuevo proyecto PAPPO Y HOY NO ES HOY con Boff, y el LP "Plan diabolico" 1987 es como uno de mejor album de RIFF! Luego de volverse a romper RIFF reunen nuevamente en el 92 con la alineacion original, grabaron "Zona De Nadie" que es malisimo y se vuelven a dividir. El baterista y el bajista de esta banda son de la alta sociedad y solo tocan cuando les da la gana y luego vuelven a desaparecer por años. Durante este tiempo Pappo forma su banda BLUES SPIRIT y y tienen un exito de radioparta mediados de los 90s, con esto se convierte en el sueño de las mujeres mayores. En 1997 vuelven a grabar un buen disco de RIFF juntos y siguen tocando aqui y alla. Pappo hace de mecanico en una novela. Pappo grabo un disco solista en el 2000 y fue de gira al sur hasta la Tierra de Fuego, tambien Boff grabo un disco solo en el 2000. Los discos son faciles de conseguir asi que no dejen que nadie les engañe diciendo que son rarezas.
