Metal Media english version

The very first fanzine outside of England `Rock Brigade´# 1 from 1982!   Rock Brigade #53, 1989   Roadie Crew #17, 1998

Bone Breaker 1987   Total Metal 2001   Sexo & Rock`n Roll, 2000 (Metal and Porn mix!)

The Metal media started really early in Brazil with the "Rock Brigade" fanzine. They released the first number in 1982, long time before the first fanzines in continental Europe, North America or Japan! This was before there was even a scene in the own country, but it helped to start it! They developed after a few years to the biggest magazine in the country, and keep till today their supremacy in the scene. Later they started with a label under the same name, and the first release was a compilation, also under this name. Later they released cult albums like HARPPIA - "7"; ALTATENSAO - "Portal do inferno" and especially the first album of VIPER. The maker of the mag Antonio Pirani soon realized the potential of this band and managed them and the following ANGRA.

Heavy Metal Maniacs from 1985   Metal Gods from 1998   Powersteel from 1999

In the mid 80s, when the scene exploded, there popped up a lot of fanzines and magazines. The magazine "Metal", which was also released in Argentina became one of the biggest in the country, but had to quit end of the 80s. Not many print media survived the time of the big crisis. One of them was the "Dynamite" mag, which is made by Andre Cagni from VODU, who wrote also for the first numbers of "Rock Brigade". They report about Rock in general, including Metal. Only in the mid 90s started a lot of new Metal magazines. The "Rock Brigade" had the same problem as magazines worldwide, as they reported about all this new trends, and some of the old die hard fans quit to read it. But there came some new mags which just served the wishes of the real Metal maniacs. One of the best is the "Roadie Crew" mag, which developed into the second biggest magazine. Since 10 years exists the very good "Metal Gods" fanzine which has a lot of reports about the local scene. Very good is also the "Heavy Melody" fanzine, which organizes now every December a big 2 days festival with local True Metal bands only!

Another good fanzine was "Strike", but switched after some numbers to Internet only:

There were always some Metal radio shows around. But it seems not to be as much as in Argentina, where you find Metal shows in every small city. There is a show since a long time in Sao Paulo called "Back Stage". The maker of this show is quite known, and he even wrote a book about the scene.
In TV there were a few shows which played Metal, but nothing special. In the beginning of MTV in Brazil they had a good show. But like in the whole world, this one was stopped too.
There some cool page now about Brazilian metal and his history. Many photos and infos contains:

....and a very big selection of bands (True Metal and Extreme) has:
