DORSAL ist ohne Zweifel die älteste, und einflussreichste Band Brasiliens. Bandleader Carlos Lopes ist DIE Metal Persönlichkeit im Lande, und gründete zusammen mit seinem Bruder Claudio 1981 ihre Band (im ersten Jahr noch als NESS), als 3er Formation, wobei die Drummer öfter wechseln. 1982 folgt ein Demo und 1984 ihr Album "Ultimatum" (Split mit METALMORPHOSIS). Sie spielen Thrash, und benutzen okkultes Outfit. Dannach sind wilde Leder und Nägel Klamotten angesagt, und ihr erstes volles Album 1986 ist schon schnellerer Thrash. Im selben Jahr sind sie auf dem grossen "Americana" Festival. Das Album 1987 festigt den Ruf von Carlos, mit seinen Texten ein intellegent kritischer Poet in der Szene zu sein. Ab 1989 singen sie auch englisch, und die folgenden 3 Alben werden Konzeptalben die die Probleme und ihre Hintergründe im Lande sehr beeindruckend in Worte fassen. Musikalisch werden sie extremer, aber immer noch im Thrash Bereich. Nachdem sie in den 80ern die erste Band waren, die im ganzen Land touren (bis Manaus im Amazonas), und SEPULTURA oft für sie eingeheizt haben, stellen sie sich nun gegen die "Pay and play" Politik. 1996 bekommen sie als erste Band im Land ein Tribute Album, was nach einer Kriese in der Band, die zum Ausstieg von Bruder Claudio führt wieder neuen Auftrieb gibt. Das Album im selben Jahr ist dann Thrash mit Hardcore, wo in 23 Tracks a 1-2 Minuten der Hass hinausgebrüllt wird. Das Livealbum enthält alle Hits der Band in Hardcoreversion. Als Bonus gibt es die "Ultimatum" von 1984, die als Vinyl wegen der 500er Auflage unmöglich zu finden war. Sie wurde aber mittlerweile noch einmal als LP, in 500 Stück limitiert aufgelegt! Auch wurden die alten Demo Sachen, von 1982 bis 1985, plus Live Songs, auf Vinyl released! Carlos hat aber die Geschichte von DORSAL ATLANTICA endgültig zu den Akten gelegt, und spielt jetzt nur noch mit seiner Rock`n Roll Metal Band MUSTANG!

DORSAL is without doubt the oldest and most influential band in Brazil. Band leader Carlos Lopes is THE Metal personality in the country. Together with his brother Claudio he founded the band in 1981. First they called themselves NESS and changed the name after one year. They stay as a 3 piece band and the drummer changed regularly. They made a demo in 1982, and released a split LP in 1984 together with METAL MORPHOSIS. They played Thrash and used an occult outfit. After that starts the time of wild leather spikes and nails clothes, and the first full album in 1986 is already fast Thrash. In the same year they play at the great "Americana" festival. The album in 1987 strengthened the reputation of Carlos Lopes to be an intelligent and critical poet in the scene. Beginning in 1989 they changed to English lyrics, and the following releases were concept albums, which show the problems and background of Brazil in impressive words. Music wise they became more extreme, but it was still in the range of Thrash Metal. In the 80s they were the first band that toured all over the country (up to Manaus, in the middle of the Amazon jungle), and SEPULTURA often played as support band for them. In the 90s they fight against the "pay and play" politics. But the band falls into a crisis and brother Claudio leaves the band. When other bands recorded a tribute album for them in 1996 it gives the band a new push. Their album in the same year is Thrash with Hardcore, where in 23 tracks of 1 to 2 minutes each their hate is shouted out. The live album contains all their hits in Hardcore version. As a bonus they put the "Ultimatum" split album on it, as the original with it's 500 copy pressing in 1984 was impossible to find. But now this old album got released again in 2002, in a 500 copy limited LP edition!! There was also an album released in 2002, with old demo and live songs from 1982 to 1985!! But Carlos quit now finally the whole DORSAL ATLANTICA chapter, and plays more Rock`n Roll like Metal with his new band MUSTANG!

DORSAL e, sem duvida, a banda mais antiga e influente do pais. O lider Carlos Lopes e A Personalidade do Metal no Brasil. Junto com seu irmao Claudio, ele fundou a banda em 1981. Primeiro usaram o nome NESS que, apos um ano, foi trocado. Eles se mantiveram como um trio, trocando o baterista frequentemente. Fizeram uma demo em 1982 e, em 1984, lancaram um LP conjunto com a banda METALMORPHOSE. Tocavam Thrash com uma indumentaria ocultista. Apos essa fase, entra a epoca de roupas de couro negro e spikes, e o primeiro disco de 1986 ja e de puro Thrash. No mesmo ano, tocaram no grande festival "Americana". O album de 1987 aumentou a reputacao de Carlos de um poeta culto e critico na cena. No inicio de 1989 eles comecaram a compor em Ingles, e os lancamentos seguintes foram conceituais, onde relatam os problemas do Brasil em letras impressionantes. Em termos musicais eles se tornaram mais extremos, mas ainda no estilo Thrash. Nos anos oitenta, foram os primeiros a excursionar por todo o pais (ate Manaus, na Amazonia), e SEPULTURA frequentemente abriu seus shows. Nos anos noventa, batalharam contra a politica do "pagar para tocar". Mais tarde entram em uma crise o irmao Claudio Lopes sai da banda. Quando outras bandas lhes gravam um tributo em 1996, a banda ganha uma energia renovada. O album do mesmo ano traz Thrash com Hardcore, com 23 faixas de um ou dois minutos cada, nas quais a banda coloca todo o odio para fora. O disco ao vivo traz todos os classicos da banda estilo Hardcore. Como um bonus, eles incluiram o seu lado do "Ultimatum" (o primeiro album conjunto), uma vez que as 500 copias originais de 1984 sao hoje impossiveis de se encontrar.
