2002 Excalibur LP

EXCALIBUR war eine lokale und sehr unbekannte Band der 80er! Sie kamen aus Campos, nahe Rio. Es gab noch eine andere Band mit dem Namen in Belo Horizonte, die noch etwas bekannter waren. Aber dank des "Dies Irae" Labels, wurden ihre alten Songs nun auf einer schön gemachten LP herausgebracht! Die Band wurde 1983 vom englischen Gitarristen Robert "Betinho" Daughty Assad gegründet. Er lebte mit seinem Vater in Brasilien, und hatte vorher in England Konzerte von britischen Metal Bands gesehen, und plante diese Musik in Brasilien auch zu spielen! Aber im Jahre 1982 war solcher Sound in Brasilien total unbekannt! So hatte er viele Probleme Musiker zu finden, aber irgendwie bekam er eine Band zusammen, auch wenn die meisten Musiker nicht aus de Rock Szene kamen! Sie nahmen 1984 ein Demo auf, welches erst jetzt ans Licht kam! Die Musik ist typischer Metal vom Beginn der 80er, der später NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) genannt wurde. Betinho ging mit den Aufnahmen nach England, um einen Vertrag zu bekommen. Aber selbst das "Ebony records" Label, welches genau diese Art von Aufnahmen machte, mochte nicht die portugisischen Texte! Die Legende geht um, dass ihm gesagt wurde: "geh zurück in den Dschungel"! Die Band löste sich dann schon 1985 auf. Der Basser Servulo Sotto gründete später KALEVALA!

EXCALIBUR was a very local and unknown band in the 80s! They came from Campos, close to Rio. There was another band with this name from Belo Horizonte which was a bit more known. But thanks to "Dies Irae" label, their old material got now released on a nice vinyl LP. The band was formed in 1983 by the English guitar player Robert "Betinho" Daughty Assad. He lived with his father in Brazil. He saw before in England concerts of British Metal bands and planned to play this music too in Brazil. But this kind of music was completely unknown in Brazil in 1982! So he had a hard time to find musicians, but he managed to get a band together, even most of them did not come from the Rock spectrum! They recorded a demo together in 1984, which only today came to the light! The music is typical Metal of the beginning of the 80s, which later was named NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal). Betinho went with the recordings to England to get a contract. But even "Ebony records" which released exactly this kind of music, did not like Portuguese lyrics! The legend goes, that people there said "go back to the jungle"!! The band already split up in 1985. The bass player Servulo Sotto later founded KALEVALA!

EXCALIBUR foi uma desconhecida banda dos anos 80! Eles são de Campos, próximo ao Rio (houve uma outra banda com o mesmo nome de BH que foi um pouco mais conhecida), mas graças a gravadora "Dies Irae" o antigo material deles foi lançado em um simpático LP. A banda foi formada em 1983 pelo guitarrista inglês Robert "Betinho" Daughty Assad. Ele morava com seu pai no Brasil. Antes disto, assistiu vários shows de Metal na Inglaterra e planejou tocar este tipo de música no Brasil. No entanto, este estilo era completamente desconhecido no país nesta época! Então ele teve problemas em encontrar músicos, chegou mesmo a tocar com pessoas que não eram da cena rocker! Gravaram uma demo em 1984 a qual um dia veio à tona. A música é o típico Metal dos anos 80, cujo, mais tarde, foi nomeado de NWOBHM. Betinho foi com estas gravações para a Inglaterra para tentar um contrato, mas a "Ebony records" que trabalhava com este estilo de música não gostou das letras em português. As pessoas disseram "volte para a floresta!" A banda se separou em 1985 e o baixista Servulo Sotto, mais tarde formou o KALEVALA!
