1995 Ecologia CD

Die Band ARMAGEDON aus Tijuana brachte eines der besten Metal Alben Mexicos heraus! Leider ist diese CD heute sehr rar! Wie viele Bands aus der Grenzregion, hatten sie mehr Verbindung zur Latino Szene in Kalifornien, und waren in der Hauptstadt Mexico City ziemlich unbekannt! Zuerst war es für mich unmöglich an Informationen über die Band zu kommen. Aber mittlerweile haben mich 2 Mitglieder kontaktet, und eine detaillierte Bandgeschichte und Fotos geschickt! Ich gebe hier in Deutsch nur eine kürzere Version wieder! Wer es genauer wissen will muss die englische oder spanische Version lesen!
Die Band wurde 1984 gegründet, als Sänger Mauricia Beltran in die Band RIFF RAFF als Sänger einstieg. Sie wechselten bald den Namen in ARMAGEDON. Leider hatten sie viel mit Besetzungswechsel zu kämpfen, und hatten im Laufe der Zeit 8 Gitarristen, 5 Basser, 1 Kayboarder, 6 Drummer, ....und einen Sänger, dem einzigen ständigen Mitglied Mauricio Beltran! Hector Rodriguez stieg 1986 als Gitarrist ein, und im selben Jahr wurde ein 3 Song Demo aufgenommen, und 1987 ein 7 Song Demo.
1988 nahmen sie am Bandwettbewerb "Rock en tu Idioma Contest" ( Rock in Spanisch Contest) teil, und belegten den dritten Platz von allen Bands. Sie durften als Gewinn für das dazugehörige Album 2 Songs aufnehmen! Dannach gab es Probleme in der Band, und sie legten eine Pause für ein Jahr ein. Hector spielte in der Zeit bei der Band LA CRUZ (2 Hard Rock LPs). Im Oktober 1989 fand sich ARMAGEDON wieder zusammen. 1990 belegten sie wieder einen dritten Platz auf einem Contest von Bands aus Tijuana und San Diego / CA. Ende 1991 nahmen sie das erste professionelle Demo "Armagedon" auf. Von dieser Kassette gab es aber nur eine ganz kleine Anzahl, da die Firma, die sie herstellte unfähig war genügend zu produzieren! In der Zeit spielte die Band ständig in ihrer Gegend, und anderen Städten der Nord Provinzen Baja California und Sonora, und erspielten sich einen guten Ruf als Live Band! Im selben Jahr spielten sie auch auf einem Kultur Festival in Mexico City, zusammen mit ARGUS und anderen. Es folgten Shows in San Diego und Los Angeles in Kalifornien.
Ende 1992 fiel dieses Line Up auseinander, und Carlos Urquidi (Gitarre) and Rene Contreras (Bass) stiegen ein, die der Band eine härtere Note gaben! Sie suchten lange nach einem neuen Drummer, aber 1994 starteten sie mit den Aufnahmen für ihr erstes Album "Ecologia"! Sie brachten es Ende des Jahres als Eigenpressung heraus. Mitte 1995 wurde es dann vom Label Sarzo Music (dem Label von Rudi Sarzo, dem kubanischen Mitglied von QUIET RIOT) herausgebracht! Die Eigenpressungs Version hat ein schönes indianisches Artwork, welches leider für die Label Version in ein "psychedelisches" Cover geändert wurde! Auf der zweiten Edition befindet sich aber als Bonus nochmal der Song "Pensando en ti" in einer anderen kürzeren Version! Um "Ecologia" zu promoten spielte die Band auch in einigen US Städten, wie Oakland, San Diego, Los Angeles (California), Chicago (Illinois), and Miami (Florida). In dem Jahr buchte Rudy Sarzo die Jungs auch als Opener für HEROES DE SILENCIO in Südamerika, aber es wurde leider nichts daraus! Sie spielten Live mit ANGELES DEL INFIERNO, EXTREME, ALICE IN CHAINS und anderen! Ihr traditioneller Metal war in der Zeit auch wenig angesagt in Mexico und den USA, und sie hatten Probleme mit ihrem Manager, was langsam zu einem Knall in der Band führte! Gitarrist Hector und andere verliessen die Band, aber das neue Line Up hielt auch nicht lange, und sie lösten sich bald komplett auf! Die Mitglieder spielten dannach in Cover Bands,und einigen Projekten mit eigenen Songs, die aber nie weit kamen!
Aber 6 Jahre später, im Jahre 2002 fanden sich die Jungs wieder zusammen, und starteten neues Material zu schreiben, und die alten Songs wieder einzustudieren! Von der Zeit des "Ecologia" Albums sind dabei: Mauricio Beltrán (Vocals), Carlos Urquidi (Gitarre) und Héctor Rodríguez (Gitarre) und aus der späteren Phase der Band Abraham Martínez (Bass), sowie die neuen Mitglieder Omar Martínez (Drumms) und Christopher Diaz Rivera (Keyboards). Sie änderten den Band Namen aber in ARMAGEDON-X!
Im Jahre 2004 wechselte schon wieder die halbe Mannschaft,und 4 Ex Mitglieder gründen gerade eine progressive Metal Band mit der Sängerin von SACRO / SHOCK!

The band ARMAGEDON from Tijuana released one of the best Metal albums in Mexican Metal history! Sadly the album is very hard to find! Like many bands in this area they had more relations to the Latino scene in California, and is more or less unknown in the capital of Mexico! First it was impossible to get any informations about this guys, but finally 2 members contacted me, and send great informations and photos! So please enjoy this detailled band history and photos!
The band was founded at the end of 1984 when Mauricio Beltran (Singer) joined the band called RIFF RAFF, and then they changed the name for ARMAGEDON. They had a lot of member changes (8 Guitar players, 5 bass players, 1 keyboard player, 6 drummers & only one singer, the founder member Mauricio Beltran). Hector Rodriguez joined the band in August 1986 as new guitar player, and the rest of the line up was Memo Barcenas (drums), Mario (bass) and Mauricio playing also guitar.
They recorded a demo tape with 3 songs. Then the drummer was replaced by Tomas Rivera and they recorded another demo of seven songs in '87. Then in '88, Tomas Rivera is replaced by José Muñoz. With that line up they participated in a "Rock en tu Idioma Contest" ( Rock in Spanish Contest) nationwidely and got third place overall and as part of the prize got 2 songs recorded in a compilation album of the contest finalists. Some months later the things were not going well and they took a break for about a year. Meanwhile Hector played with LA CRUZ (made 2 Hard Rock LPs), for about a year. Then in October '89 ARMAGEDON rejoined with a new bass player: Bob McGuire, along with Tomas Rivera on drums that came back. In September '90 they got a third place in another rock contest along with other bands from Tijuana and San Diego CA. In the same year they opened shows for ALICE IN CHAINS and EXTREME in Tijuana, B.C. In '91 Kisag Avakian joined the band as second lead guitar (along with Hector) and a new bass player, Alex Verdugo. In November of that same year they did the first profesional recording called "Armagedon", but with a small amount of tapes (no CD's). All of them were sold but the company was so broke, they couldn`t continue the production. Despite the short production they were playing constantly around Tijuana and in the provinces of Baja California and Sonora and set a good reputation as a live band. In `91 they played also in Mexico City at a Cultural Festival along with ARGUS and other bands from there, and in 1992 followed shows in San Diego and Los Angeles in California.
At the end of '92 that line up sadly broke up, and in the begining of '93 they took a "heavier" direction with the inclusion of Carlos Urquidi (guitar) and Rene Contreras on bass. That year was a hard one trying to get the appropriate drummer for what they were trying to do. At last, around April and May '94 "Ecologia" was recorded with Sergio Carlos on drums (unfortunately he was with another band called TOXIC RACE and never was 100% with them). So, the record was done but it wasn`t mixed until around August and mastered by October and released almost at the end of that year. In the middle of '95 the album was re released by Sarzo Music (the label of Rudi Sarzo, the Cuban member of QUIET RIOT). The first independent version appeared with a nice indian art cover, and the label changed this to an unexciting "psychadelic" cover art! But this second edition contains again the song "Piensando en ti" in a different, shorter version!
To promote "Ecologia" they played 1996 in some US towns, like Oakland, San Diego, Los Angeles (California), Chicago (Illinois), and Miami (Florida). In this year Rudy Sarzo booked also a tour to South America, opening the shows of HEROES DE SILENCIO (a very well known band from Spain) but for some reasons it never came true. They played in this time also with ANGELES DEL INFIERNO, EXTREME, ALICE IN CHAINS und anderen. Unfortunately at that time the kind of Metal they were doing was almost dead in U.S.A. and it would have been great to promotion it in South America (Argentina, Chile, etc) or in Europe or Japan but at this time they had a big problem with their manager and then Hector left the band because of that and other personal problems. Beside that, Carlos wasn`t in the band any more, Tomas Rivera was playing drums once again and Julio Valle took the place from Carlos (they apeared in the pictures from Sarzo Music's edition). Soon after this, the band split completely! The members played after this mainly in cover bands, and a few projects with own material, which never came far.
But 6 years later, in 2002, they got together and went in the rehearsal studio and wrote new songs and rehearsed the old material. The members from the time of the "Ecologia" album are Mauricio Beltrán (vocals), Carlos Urquidi (guitar) und Héctor Rodríguez (guitar), and from the later phase of the band Abraham Martínez (bass), and the new members Omar Martínez (drumms) and Christopher Diaz Rivera (Keyboards).
In the year 2004 changed again half of the band, and 4 ex members founded a progressive Metal band together with the singer of the old band SACRO / SHOCK!

Biografia oficial, con permiso de la banda!
La banda fué formada a finales de 1984 cuando Mauricio (cantante) se unió a una banda llamada RIFF RAFF, y después se le cambió el nombre a ARMAGEDON. La banda tuvo muchos cambios de elementos (8 guitarristas, 5 bajistas, 1 tecladista, 6 bateristas y solo un cantante, el miembro fundador Mauricio Beltrán). Hector Rodriguez se unió a la banda en Agosto de 1986 como nuevo guitarrista, y el resto de la alineación fué Memo Barcenas (baterista), Mario (bajo) y Mauricio (cantante). Grabaron un demo tape de 3 canciones. Despues el baterista Memo fué remplazado por Tomas Rivera y grabaron otro demo de 7 canciones en el '87. Despues en el '88, Tomas Rivera es reemplazado por José Muñoz. Con esa alineacion participaron en el concurso "Rock en tu Idioma" y obtuvieron el tercer lugar a nivel nacional y como parte del premio grabaron 2 canciones en un disco acoplado de los finalistas del concurso. Algunos meses mas tarde las cosas no fueron tan buenas y decidieron tomar un descanso. Mientras tanto Hector tocó con LA CRUZ, alrededor de un año. Después en Octubre del '89 ARMAGEDON se reunió con un nuevo bajista: Bob McGuire, junto con Tomas Rivera en la bateria que había regresado. En Septiembre del '90 obtuvieron tercer lugar en otro concurso de rock junto con otras bandas de Tijuana y San Diego CA.
En ese año abren concierto para ALICE IN CHAINS y EXTREME en Tijuana, B.C. En '91 Kisag Avakian se unió a la banda como una segunda guitarra lider (junto con Héctor) y un nuevo bajista: Alex Verdugo. En Noviembre de ese mismo año grabaron su primer disco profesional, llamado "Armagedon", pero con una pequeña producción de tapes (no CD's). Toda la producción se vendió pero la compañia era muy pequeña, y no pudieron continuar con la producción. A pesar de la corta producción, estuvieron tocando mucho en Tijuana, y en diferentes ciudades de Baja California y Sonora, obteniendo una gran reputación como banda en vivo. En ese mismo año tuvieron su primera visita a la ciudad de México y participaron en un Festival Cultural junto con ARGUS y otras bandas de México, y en 1992 continuaron presentaciones en San Diego y en Los Angeles, California USA. También abriendo conciertos para grandes bandas de Mexico y Sudamérica asi como ANGELES DEL INFIERNO de España.
Al final del '92 esa alineación tristemente se terminó , y en el principio del '93 tomaron una dirección mas "pesada" con la inclusión de Carlos Urquidi (guitarra) y Rene Contreras (bajo) Ese año fué muy dificil para la banda tratando de encontrar al baterista apropiado para poder lograr lo que la banda estaba tratando de hacer. Por fin alrededor de Abril y Mayo del '94 "Ecologia" fué grabado con Sergio Carlos en la bateria, desafortunadamente el tocaba con una banda llamada TOXIC RACE y nunca estuvo al 100% con ellos). Asi que el disco fué grabado pero no fué mezclado hasta alrededor de Agosto y masterizado hasta Octubre y sacado a la venta casi al final de ese año. En la mitad del '95 el CD fué remasterizado y sacado a la venta en USA por Sarzo Music (la compañia de Rudy Sarzo, el bajista de QUIET RIOT). La primera version independiente apareció con una portada de una imagen azteca combinada con una imagen de la Tierra desde el espacio, y la compañia la cambió por una mas sicodelica. Pero en este CD viene incluida la cancion "Piensando en ti" en dos versiones, una mas corta de promoción y otra normal. Para promover "Ecologia" estuvieron tocando en algunas ciudades de USA, como Oakland, San Diego, Los Angeles (California), Chicago (Illinois), y Miami (Florida).
En este año Rudy Sarzo los embarcó a una gira por Sudamérica, para abrir los shows de HEROES DEL SILENCIO (una banda muy conocida de España) pero por alguna razón nunca se llegó a realizar. Desafortunadamente el tipo de Heavy Metal que el grupo estaba tocando en ese tiempo, estaba decayendo en U.S.A. y habría sido mucho mejor haberlo promocionado en Sudamérica (Argentina, Chile, etc) en Europa o Japon, pero en ese tiempo tuvieron grandes problemas con su manager. Ademas de eso, Carlos ya no estaba en la banda, Tomas Rivera estaba en la bateria una vez mas, y Julio Valle tomó el lugar de Carlos (ellos aparecen en las fotos de la edición de Sarzo Music). Pronto después de estos acontecimientos, Hector abandonó la banda ademas de problemas personales y fué cuando la banda se desintegró totalmente. Después de esto la mayoria de los miembros estuvieron tocando covers en otras bandas, y algunos proyectos con musica original los cuales nunca llegaron lejos. Pero ahora, poco mas de 6 años después, la banda se ha reintegrado y estan tocando de nuevo y escribiendo nuevo material asi como tocando bastante de lo ya grabado. Se fueron cambiar el nombre en ARMAGEDON-X. Los miembros que grabaron "Ecologia" y que forman parte de la actual alineación son: Mauricio Beltrán (vocalista), Carlos Urquidi (guitarra) y Héctor Rodríguez (guitarra), y los nuevos miembros son: Abraham Martínez (bajo), Omar Martínez (bateria) y Christopher Diaz (teclados).
En 2004 cambie otra vez algunas miembros y 4 ex miembros fueron fundar una banda de Metal progressivo, juntos con la cantante de SACRO / SHOCK!
